LCA BASEBALL PROGRAM OVERVIEW
We will run a high school baseball program that:
- Will Glorify God and represent Legacy in a positive way
- Is sustainable over the long term
- We All will take significant pride in
- Is education based with a Christ-Centered culture
- Competes at a High Level
- Works closely in partnership with School, Parents and Community
We have 3 Goals for the season – Every individual:
1) become a better person
2) become a better teammate
3) become a better competitor and baseball player
We will remember that our #1 priority and focus is to fulfill our Purpose - help develop better people through competing in the game of baseball. LCA Baseball strives to give kids learning experiences they can use for the rest of their lives. We're developing a person first, an athlete second. We are not defined by championships and wins or losses; we are defined by our purpose and how we showcase our purpose. If we win a championship; great; it will be very exciting, and we will celebrate! But, if we do not do it in a way that glorifies God than it will be worthless. Winning is clearly a goal but it is not our purpose.
We will coach within the framework of the overall high school experience and priorities, and we will support and encourage multiple sport athletes. Benefits of multiple sports include: learn to compete, skills are transferable, learn different roles, experience different teammates and coaches, experience less burnout, show versatility for colleges, and it enhances the high school experience.
We will support and promote players that want to play at the collegiate level.
We will have high expectations and standards for all involved: Coaches, Players and Parents. We will do everything within an environment of character and commitment. The players will consistently hear these words, and we will talk about what they mean off the field as well as on it.
We will focus on performance, not on the outcome - I believe we get better results when we focus on those things that we control, especially in a game of adversity, like baseball. We will talk in terms of being "not satisfied" versus "disappointed" if things don't go well - viewing it as a "temporary setback," not "failure." We hold ourselves accountable, we don't make excuses, and we don't focus on past events that have already happened. The environment will be positive, enthusiastic and glorifying to God.
We will emphasize and seek excellence what we can control from a baseball standpoint; these essentially represent how we will evaluate our performance each game.
- Championship Execution of the Fundamentals
- Compete With a Legacy Mindset - Control - Commit - Compete
- Play in a manor that honors God
- Be Mentally Tough
- Compete Aggressively With A Purpose
- Be Positive
We will emphasize pitching and defense. - If you throw strikes and make plays, you've always got a chance to win the game.
Offensively, we will be "aggressive under control." We want to put "constant pressure" on the opponent's defense.
We will emphasize and spend practice time on the mental part of the game of baseball: practicing ways to help deal with adversity, and developing and practicing routines that can be relied upon under pressure.
